Hand woven baskets and hand carved wooden utility products are indigenous to
most tribal groups and regions and are widely used and produced across South
Africa. The tradition of basket weaving has produced a high level of skill and
intricacy and patterns and designs vary according to culture and region.
In the rural areas most of the groups traditionally work with grass whereas in
the cities weaving with wire and recycled plastic is more prevalent.
