Link Africa is operated on Fair Trade principles and all of the factories and producers with whom we work are audited on a regular basis to insure fair and safe business practices are being upheld. We pay specific attention to:
– Minimum wage rates as outlined by the Department of labour
– No child labour
– Production facilities are inspected and ID of all employees kept on file
– Working conditions
– Fire, Health and safety
– Employee contracts of employment
Link Africa support BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) and SME (Small to Medium Enterprises). Approxmiately 80% of our product is procured from BEE and PDI (Previously Disadvantaged Individuals) companies.
In early 2004, Link Africa partnered with South Africa's principle retailer Woolworth's, in support of creating jobs for the previously disadvantaged communities and BEE business development projects. The shopping bag initiative currently sustains four production facilities and employs in access of 250 employees across South Africa.
